Editorial Services

I have been a professional editor and writer for over 10 years, and have my Master of Fine Arts in Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. I also have a degree in Film and Broadcasting with an emphasis in Screenwriting from Boston University’s College of Communication.

I have edited and consulted on picture books and middle grade and young adult novels. I am a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators), Heartland Writers for Kids and Teens, The Writer’s Place, and Mainely Writers. I have taught creative writing and been a speaker and workshop leader at numerous regional and national conferences, including SCBWI and the One Year Adventure Novel (OYAN).

I offer the following services:

Developmental Editing — This service provides a close read and deep dive into the structure and elements of your manuscript. After the initial manuscript review, letter, and one-on-one call to discuss all feedback and a revision strategy, I provide at least one more review of the manuscript post revision.

Editorial Assessment — This service is like a developmental edit in that I offer a close read of the manuscript, a detailed and comprehensive editorial letter, and a follow-up conversation. This service differs in that it stands alone and does not offer subsequent reviews.

Copy Editing — This service should be requested when your manuscript is in its final steps before submission. If your work still needs revising, requesting a copy edit is a waste of your money and the editor’s time. Copy editing is more involved than proofreading. Like proofreading, this service involves editing for punctuation and grammar, but it also involves reading your work for consistency, cohesion, and clarity.

Proofreading — This service involves reading your work for proper formatting, grammar, and punctuation. This should be the last service your manuscript receives before it goes on submission.
